Mariquita Mariette and Eleonora race off Minorca
As I travelled to six classic yacht events in the Mediterranean in the summer of 2007 I could be sure to see a number of these supreme yachts racing.
This race at the ‘Vela Classica Menorca’ was a particular needle match between these three fine yachts in a force four to five breeze.
Mariquita (C1) is the famous William Fife yacht originally built in 1911 and
is 125feet overall length
Mariette is the famous Hereshoff yacht built in 1915 which was restored to her
present condition in the mid 1990s.
Also see my picture of her showing from the bow Mariette
off Minorca and The
Herreshoff schooner Mariette off Sardinia 2007.
Eleonora is nearly new appearing on the scene in 2001. However she is built on the same lines as the greatly successful 1930’s Hereshoff yacht Westward. Other pictures of her are Eleonora’s helm and Looking forward on Eleonora.
All three boats are stars of the Mediterranean circuit.
